Independent voices, acting of their own accord, form a coherent and majestic whole— let’s talk about polyphony! And about autonomous, unconstricted lives. The writer and philosopher Beate Rößler is an expert in these ideas. She asks: Which circumstances of our lives are truly freely chosen? Do our expectations of freedom hurt our ability to be happy? After an introduction to the art of musical polyphony by the pianist Kit Armstrong, Rößler will talk with Ensemble Resonanz musicians about the way they structure their lives: independence, the greater good, and the tensions and resistance between them.
